Mentoring support for black and minority ethnic young people

The Black Families Education Support Group Mentoring Project project provides mentoring support for black and minority ethnic young people aged 7-18 in Bath and North East Somerset.

The project works with parents, local schools, colleges and partner organisations in identifying and referring young people to the project.

The project aims to: -

  • Raise the educational achievement and aspirations of black and minority ethnic young people
  • Support black and minority ethnic young people in relation to education, training and employment
  • Recruit, train and support learning mentors from the Black and Minority Ethnic Community

Mentors develop positive and supportive relationships with young people which promotes the development of self-esteem and confidence. A mentor encourages the young person's engagement in a variety of social, leisure and educational activities with the aim of developing social networks, social and personal awareness, skills and interests.
